My textured career with over-lapping experience in several major sectors of American business and society gives me a unique perspective of the world around me. From being a waitress and housekeeper to a small business owner and single mother, I’ve gained a strong understanding of what hard work is all about. Working in newspaper, radio, film & stage acting, as well as marketing and advertising, taught me about the importance of commercial and aesthetic appeal to the lives of everyday people. As a corporate trainer, marketing executive, and publicity manager, I learned about how people consume products and services, and I became an expert at promotion. As a PhD student and college professor, I taught students how to consume information and promote and think for themselves. Today, I utilize this rich work and education experience in my work as an international consultant and social justice educator.

Like a good grad student, I enjoy reading literary theory books as much as I do a good novela. Literature, history, & philosophy are heavy influences on my perspective of American pop-culture. That’s not to say that I’m not well versed in the fine art of American pulp media — especially TV. My academic focus has been literature & culture peppered with strong historical context. I have been active in local & state politics since I was 18, and have been a voting delegate in the last two state conventions of the Texas Democratic Party. I post regularly on twitter as @BrownBoyRocks, and you can see other commentary and writings at my personal blog ConFrijoles.com
