I wanted to share with the Funk N Beans community that I’m a new contributor to Teaching United States History, a fantastic blog that many of our readers will be interested in. Since we cover many of the same issues here, I thought it was worth sharing.
I also have to insert a personal side note that’s particularly relevant for the Funk N Beans family: I used my first post to address the topic of teaching US history in a diverse classroom, a subject we’ve discussed here and that many of us hold dear. In my own journey, it was Rhonda Ragsdale who first clued me in to the benefits of teaching in diverse settings, to under-served communities. One semester (under her guidance), and I was sold for life! So I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank-you to Rhonda, who has done more to promote meaningful conversations about this topic than anyone I know. We’ve all learned so much on this site and through #SaturdaySchool chats about diversity in the classroom and in US history.
Let me know your thoughts.
