Don’t you wish we could use choreography as a method of protest the way they do in the movie Newsies? Disney seems to have added something to the toolbox of protest in this film about historic newspaper worker confilcts with Pulitzer. Demonstrations, marches, pamphlets — and dancing. While I used to claim that it takes more than that to make change happen – and still do, I have to admit that the recent, unprecented peace-style protests in Egypt and elsewhere may be reminding us about something Woodstock seemed to allude to back in 1969. The value of dancing through the protest may actually catch on.
One of my favorite bands, Radio 4, started a movement in NYC that wanted to “Dance The Revolution.” They’re pretty cool. This is one of their “revolutionary” dance tunes:
